I googled the name of the venue and the address. There is no ” Carondelet House ” in Austin and I googled “10400 Button Quail Dr Austin, TX” and its just a residence…

This scam just appeared in my inbox as well. I almost replied (I run a creative business and we don’t do wedding photography), but thought I’d search the web for “My name is Sarah and a groom-to-be…” first – just to be safe – and this blog popped up. I was going to refer them to some wedding photographers I know, and now I’m glad I didn’t!

This happens to me frequently now. They send a check for way more than the cost of the services, then they ask for some back, as they have made a “mistake” by sending the wromg amount. It can take months for your bank to fugure out that the check is no good, and you are left responsible to paying it back. Report yhem to the FBI, this crap has to stop.

I kind of got the idea it was a scam once I sent back some specific questions and they were not able to answer them. the response seemed very template.
My response:
First of all, congratulations! this is really an exciting moment. I still remember planning my wedding…just kidding, my wife did most of work but I do remember.
So, I don’t shoot weddings but I’ve been thinking about it if it’s not too large.
1. What is the guest list count? Just asking because I would be willing to shoot the wedding if the guest list is no more than 100.
2. Where is the location of the wedding?
If you’re ok with this being my first wedding shoot let me know if you would like to talk more. If not I can definitely sending you another photographer’s contact information.
